My Best Vacation

As a project manager by profession, I have always enjoyed planning cocktail soirees, costume parties with clever themes, such as the Great Gatsby, and gatherings of friends, but especially a beautiful vacation just to chillax with friends. Nothing makes me happier than getting off the perfect jetliner to an exotic place where you can almost hear the voice of Tattoo, played by the actor Hervé Villachaize in the successful series, Fantasy Island when he starts ringing the bell in the tower and yelling, “De Plane, De Plane. Those are great memories and maybe I should start rewatching a few older episodes from 1981.

Another great thing about being on vacation is being taken to your beautiful accommodations puts a smile on your face that seems to last a lifetime, not to mention the wonderful smell of the room, the breathtaking views, the linen sheets, and that gorgeous dark chocolate that softly speaks my name. Although it has been many years, there are two destinations that still provide me with delicious memories. One was at a beautiful resort with friends at a Punta Cana Resort in the Dominican Republic. I can still feel the excitement as my team of champs giggled with excitement. Another one that stands out was the first time I stayed at the Royal Hawaiian Hotel in Waikiki, an elaborate room with a view of the ocean. I still must pinch myself.

The past 2 years have been filled with disappointments and distractions making it difficult to plan that special getaway before the year 2022, disappears like 2021 and 2020. After a few amazing events during the month of December, I looked in the mirror last week and told myself, “Hey dude, you deserve a mini refresher to revitalise yourself and prepare for 2023. The deal was made.

The next morning a vacation plan had been created just for me. I was so excited. I looked at the beautiful note left near my bed wishing me good luck on my new journey. I smiled with excitement although I felt a bit sluggish. Maybe too many cocktails the night before. I love having a good time with friends. I glanced at the note again as I searched for my reading glasses and found them. The note said, your wish has come true. Your vacation starts now and everything you desire will be provided for you. There was a list of items that included:

· 7 to 10 days of all-expense paid vacation

  • Breakfast in bed and other meals too
  • A gorgeous bedroom with a view of the bay
  • Delicious food, wines, and cocktails
  • A weight loss program or workout classes
  • Great films, books, and jazz
  • Jacuzzi baths and steamy showers
  • Apple Mac laptop in guest rooms
  • No people to disturb your privacy and quietness.

Who could ask for anything more, right? I smiled and said out loud, “Laissez les bons temps roule.” Then it dawned on me when I re-examined the note. It was from an old friend that my doctor said I may meet one of these days. Its name was COVID, and I had been diagnosed with it and would be in isolation for 5 to 7 days. The best part, all that was promised was received with a smile.

One of my best and longest friends sent me a note and a video from Saturday Night Live that cheered me up and gave me a reason to laugh. I could not have made it without my friend’s great sense of humour. By the way, this has been one of the best vacations in a long time.

Check out this great message that will change the way you may react to things in the future that we can’t control.
